What is
Thuja Vida?

Hi, I’m Rowan, the human behind Thuja Vida— a place where gardens, archetypes, and a little Zen wisdom collide. Think funky art supplies meet muddy boots…?

Thuja (cedar) trees are strange, stubborn, and quietly powerful. They grow where others won’t.

Vitality isn’t always about brightness or perfection — sometimes it’s about endurance, rootedness, and the weird ways life keeps going.

Thuja Vida grew out of that realization.

I wasn’t always this way. For a long time, I played the game society laid out: get the grades, collect the accolades, stack the résumé.

On the outside? Success. On the inside?

A gnawing sense of emptiness.

Depression and loneliness brewed quietly, like an underground mycelium network of doubt. I felt disconnected — from people, from myself, from the natural world that once felt like home.

College, careers, constant striving — it all left me spinning. Chasing achievement was supposed to feel good, but instead it felt hollow. So I started searching.

What I Found 🌱

I read — a lot. Everything from dry psychology textbooks to Zen koans that felt like riddles whispered by the forest. I sat with Huang Po, Nisargadatta, Marsha Linehan, Eckhart Tolle. I found therapy in gardening — planting things, watching them grow, failing at it, trying again. Art became my messy language when words didn’t work.

Piece by piece, I stitched together a way of living that felt less… artificial. Less performance. More alive.

That vitality isn’t “achieved,” it’s remembered.

That we’re already connected, like roots and mycelium under the soil.

That art, gardening, and mindful weirdness can be medicine.

So I pulled it all together — psychology tools, Zen teachings, archetypes, dirt, paint, and poetry — into something others could pick up and try. Not as a cure, not as a “hack,” but as a companion for the days when life feels heavy.

My Promise 🌙

I’m not here to sell you perfection. I’m not here to tell you to “just think positive.” I’m here to share what I’ve learned: small practices rooted in nature, art, and old wisdoms that actually make life feel a little less suffocating.

If you’ve ever felt like you don’t quite fit the mold — like the world wants you shinier, more productive, less weird — you’re in the right place. Thuja Vida is for the misfits, the gardeners, the seekers, the ones who read too much and dream too big.

Welcome. Let’s root, grow, and get a little weird together. 🌿
